Background
- The
Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA) is a not-for-profit
Women's advocacy group founded by women lawyers.
- Currently, the the head office is located in
Addis Ababa with branch offices in Assosa, Awassa, Bahirdar,
Diredawa, Nazareth and Gambella.
- The regional offices staffs
are supported by 53 trained voluntary committee members at the woreda and zonal levels, providing a structure to reach women
throughout Ethiopia.
Mission

EWLA'S
mission is to promote the economic, political, social and
legal rights of women In this same token, EWLA starves to
assist women in struggle to secure
full protection of their rights under Constitution of the
Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and other
international human rights
conventions.
Objectives
- As
defined in its articles of the association, EWLA pursues the
following specific objectives:
- The elimination of all
forms of legally and traditionally sanctioned discriminations
against
women;
- The ensuring of equal
treatment of women
with men in
education, employment, access
to public services and benefits;
- The advocacy of remedial and affirmative
measures for women
to redress accumulated consequences of discriminations.
